A Thousand Splendid Suns

The illegitimate daughter Mariam waits at the gate of her father's house, but when she returns home, she sees her mother who hanged herself because of despair. It was her fifteenth birthday, and childhood came to an abrupt end. Mariam was then arranged by her father to marry Rashid, a forty-year-old shoemaker in Kabul, who had suffered several miscarriages and ended up living under the shadow of domestic violence for a long time because she was unable to have children.

Eighteen years later, the girl Laila's parents died in the war, and her childhood sweetheart also disappeared in the war. The unaccompanied Laila had no choice but to marry Rashid. Two Afghan women each have tragic memories belonging to different eras, and together they are under the pressure of war, poverty, and domestic violence. Mother and daughter love each other. However, the years of deception will be exposed one day...
