"Three Keys of History: Boxers as Events, Experiences, and Myths (Collector's Edition)" won the 1997 American Historical Association Fairbank Award for East Asian History and the 1997 New England Historical Society Book Award. The book takes the Boxers as an example to explain to people three different ways to understand history, that is, the three tunes of history: events, experiences and myths. The main purpose of this book is not to tell the history of the Boxers, but to discuss a series of issues related to the writing of history. "The Boxers are just a 'supporting role' in this work."
