"Surprise at the First Moment" is a collection of short stories from the Ming Dynasty in China. It was written by Ling Yuchu at the end of the Ming Dynasty. "Two beats". "Three words" refers to "Yu Shi Ming Yan", "Jing Shi Tong Yan", "Xing Shi Heng Yan".

"Surprise at the First Moment" was completed in the seventh year of Mingqi (1627), and published by Shangyoutang Bookstore in the following year (the first year of Chongzhen). It has 40 volumes and 40 independent stories. However, the original has been lost, and the earliest and most complete version seen today is the Shangyoutang engraved edition in the Cabinet Library of Japan. It has thirty-nine volumes, and the twenty-third volume is missing. The twenty-third volume of this edition is the same as "Surprise at Two Moments".

In the forty volumes of "Chu Ke Pai An Jing Qi", there are nine chapters in the mid-Tang Dynasty, seven chapters in the Song Dynasty, six chapters in the Yuan Dynasty, thirteen chapters in the Ming Dynasty, and five chapters in uncertain times. The content of the story is mainly based on "Taiping Guangji", "Yijian Zhi", "Jiandeng Xinhua", "Jiandeng Yuhua" and other books. Thought, Ling Mochu was deeply influenced by Feng Menglong, and the preface of the first inscription said: "The books compiled by Dulong Ziyou (Feng Menglong) on Yushi and other books are quite elegant, follow good rules from time to time, and break the bad habits of today."
